Queen City of the North : an illustrated history of Traverse City from its beginnings to 1980s
Published in Unknown Binding by Village Press ()
Author: Lawrence Wakefield
Average review score:

TC history from Jacqui's perspective
I grew up in TC. I was born in 1943. I don't remember much about the colorful history of that booming little town, so decided at age 58 to find some historical printed word I could appreciate. I found "Queen City of the North" by L Wakefield on Amazon.com. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this historical reference book. I will be sharing it with others. I have an aunt living in the Grand Traverse Pavilions which was built on the grounds of the former State Hospital in TC. She is 85 years of age, and will so appreciate this book. I hope to find another copy so I can send it to her. As I read through this history of where I was born and raised, I became so aware of the importance of the men and women who went before me, and worked so hard to make that community what is is today. If Perry Hannah could jump aboard a snowmobile (in winter) or an air-conditioned bus or car in summer, and be taken on a tour of what the community he began so long ago has grown into, he would be overwhelmed, thrilled, and humbled. This is a grand historical perspective that I hope will be continued expanding on the continued growth of tourism, and the growing agricultural importance of the wine industry that has captivated the land surrounding TC. If you have not read this and are interested in TC, MI get this book!!

Racial Attitudes in America: Trends and Interpretations
Published in Hardcover by Harvard Univ Pr (February, 1998)
Authors: Howard Schuman, Charlotte Steeh, Lawrence Bobo, and Maria Krysan
Average review score:

A Must-Read!
Schuman et al.'s "Racial Attitudes in America" is a must-read for students and researchers interested in race relations and intersections between race and politics. Well-written and insightful, "Racial Attitudes in America" is also very understandable for the curious observer of race relations. Schuman et al. analyze national survey data from the 1970s to the present in order to understand how the public feels about such important issues as affirmative action and other "race-targeted" policies. Moreover, the authors examine the extent to which prejudice and other negative racial attitudes are still widespread in the United States. Though extremely informative, the book devotes far more attention to examining trends in racial attitudes than to understanding the sources of them. Nonetheless, this book will provide a valuable starting point for any student or researcher interested in understanding the sources of racial attitudes.

An important examination of attitude and politics.
This debate about racism in America draws from a range of disciplines to consider the debates surrounding the sources of racism in America. The result is an important examination which draws some needed links between attitude and politics.

Begin a whole new adventure in spiritual development
If you are looking for a superb guide to spiritual development practices, look no more! "Realizing Your Inner Potential" is the magnum opus of the late Dr George King. He was a Western Master of Yoga who applied a brilliant intellect to the secret teachings of the East. As a younger man he threw himself into the practice of yoga, earning many advanced initiations from the great teachers of the time. He became capable of awakening the mystic fire of kundalini in its entirety into the ultimate state of samadhi. This gave him the ability to discern from personal experience which spiritual development practices combined effectiveness with balance. During his life, the mystic tradition of secrecy towards powerful teachings changed into one of openness in keeping with the unfolding New Age. This meant that he was free to adopt practices containing the ancient secrets of spiritual attainment and also to design new ones to work effectively with Western culture. Don't pass up the opportunity to learn from the best..... order your copy now and begin a whole new adventure in spiritual development.
